The Oracle Academy is designed to educate students on the fundamentals of database technology and to provide them with the necessary skills to pursue academic and professional opportunities. Oracle Academy Courses @ Las Positas College

The Oracle Academy currently offers two courses which make up a total of 360 contact hours. A contact hour is 50 minutes long, and each course is approximately 180 contact hours. All courses include lectures by the instructor, hands-on labs, projects, soft skills (i.e. collaboration, problem solving, interviewing, resume building, and much more).

At Las Positas, we will be offering the Database Design and Programming course in Spring 2006. Look for CIS 99.90 - ORACLE SQL Database Design and Programming on Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30 - 6:45 lecture, labs are TBA

Class Preview:

This will take you to Oracle's online coursework. The curriculum demonstration contains a select sample of lessons from the curriculum.


CIS 99.90 - Oracle SQL - Database Design and Programming

Las Positas College will offer the first CIS 99.90 Oracle SQL - Database Design and Programming in Spring 2006. Class is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursday, 5:30 - 6:45pm for lecture, lab hours are TBA (to be arranged).

The course materials are online, you can preview some selected lessons within the Oracle learning management system. Each course features online lessons integrated with in-class activities. HTML DB

No SPECIAL SOFTWARE REQUIRED.    In addition to the above online course work, students will have access to Oracle HTML DB. Oracle HTML DB is a rapid web application development tool for the Oracle database. Course Details

The mission of the Oracle Internet Academy is to educate students on the fundamentals of Internet and database technology and provide them with the necessary skills to pursue academic and professional opportunities. It is a partnership between Las Positas College College and the Oracle Corporation to educate our students in the latest technologies. Students not only develop the technical skills that they need to survive in today’s ever advancing information age, but the business and logic skills that they can carry with them for life.

Assessment

The program is assessed using a variety of methods including practical projects, presentations, and role-plays. On-line multi-choice tests are used to monitor progress throughout the course.

Qualifications

Upon completion of the Academy, you will possess strong interview, presentation, team working, problem solving and cv preparation skills in addition to the Data modelling and SQL knowledge that you will learn. However, you will not only gain the skills you need to succeed, but potentially an industry recognized certification as well!

Entry Requirements

Although the curriculum is challenging, no prior knowledge of Data Modelling, SQL, or programming is required.

Additional Information

The course relies extensively on the internet to provide on-line learning materials, videos, animations, tutorial support and forums. Students become members of a worldwide on-line community.
