WELCOME to the new online version of the Las Positas College student newspaper, the Express. Here you will find a selection of our best material. Not everything from the print edition will be included, so we hope readers will still enjoy the old media along with the new. We hope this easy-access online version will bring the Express to a broader audience in the local community and beyond.
Who we are
Now that we are on the Internet and registered with the nationwide university wire service U-Wire, we expect some of our readers may be far outside the "Tri-Valley Area" so to let you know: Las Positas College is a 7000-student community college in Livermore, California, about one hour southeast of San Francisco. Our community is the home of the Lawrence-Livermore National Lab, and is also known for its ranches, vineyards, and high-tech industry. The school logo represents the rolling hills behind the campus. Our school colors are black and red. Our mascot is the hawk. Check out the LPC Home page to learn more about our school or to get live Bay Area weather reports from high atop our science building. What's here and what's coming

Who did it and how you can, too
The overall graphic design, organization, and archival sections of this initial web edition were originally created by students in the Fall 1999 Art 4251 Web Design class with instructor Linda Thurston. Participants were: Rebecca Allgeyer (Opinion), Arthur Barinque (Thrifty Voyager), Myra Cos and Jerome Santos (Sports and Contact Us), Michael Dietz (Entertainment), Mary Schrot and John Wilson (News), and Alex Wong (Expressions). This spring, Jason Ashley, Arthur Barinque, Donna McFadden, Vinh Phan, and Linda Trout are working to update, test, launch, and develop our new site.If you are interested in participating, please join us. Want to improve your writing ability or learn desktop publishing and web design? This is a great way to learn by doing, with a small class size, hands-on experience, and lots of fun. We can often accommodate students needing a flexible schedule. Students can take 1-5 units in Mass Communications. See Contact Us for details or visit us in room 305 on the quad.
