A team of LPC students and faculty will join the fight against
breast cancer on Sunday, October 24 by walking in Making Strides
Against Breast Cancer, a five-mile pledge walk in San Francisco
for the American Cancer Society.
Karen Kit and Kim Kerrigan, who are putting together the LPC
team, have set a goal of recruiting 15 to 25 people for a day
of fun-raising for an important cause, to celebrate
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Making Strides route starts and ends at Speedway Meadow
in Golden Gate Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m.
Approximately 20,000 Californians will be diagnosed with breast
cancer this year, and 4,600 will die from the disease, according
to the American Cancer Society. Funds raised through the 5-mile
walk will support cancer research, mammography legislation, quality
care for cancer patients, educational efforts, and Reach to Recovery,
a one-to-one support program for women fighting breast cancer.
