Parking permit costs may double

By Monica Monzon

The rising cost of parking lot maintenance is likely to force an increase in the price of daily parking permits.

The decision for the increase came from the office of the Vice-President and Director of Security for both Las Positas and Chabot colleges. The increase, which must be approved by the Board of Trustees, would be district-wide and would take effect sometime next year. The price of semester parking permits won’t be affected.

“It is something that we have to do,” said Rich Butler, Director of Safety and Security. “The price of parking here is fairly low compared to other schools, even with the increase.”

The cost of maintaining the parking lots is paid for from the parking fund, which is comprised of money earned from daily and semester parking permits. No money from the college goes into this fund.
