MultiSensory Learning

The Geology courses are constructed to teach geology through all of the different learning styles for all different types of students. Each geology course includes lectures followed by experiences through slides, video clips, cd-roms, demonstrations, films, on-line, in-class InterNet, etc.

Specifically, the Geology courses include the following:

• verbal explanation (lectures)
• visual info (videos, demos, cd-roms, InterNet, etc.)
• tactile or other sensory info (e.g., labs - learning by doing - experiential)
• textbook (for additional help with course topics)
• collaboration (group work) and independent study
• materials on reserve in the LRC (videos, photo albums, etc)
• Science Center Work Area (Room 1824)
• Rock, Mineral and Fossil Display in Room 1824
• Computers with InterNet connections in Room 1824
• Geology tutoring: Building 1000 -- it's free!

Collaboration and in-class group-work varies with each student and each geology course, but all students are strongly encouraged to study in groups as well as individually.

Take one Geology course and you'll want to take another...and they satisfy GE graduation requirements, too!
