Geologist, Grice Engineering and Geology, Salinas, CA, 1/91-8/91. Geohazard evaluations. Each project covered all geohazards (e.g., faulting potential, ground failure, landslides, etc.), integrated thorough literature reviews and field work, included regional and specific local geologies, followed state (CDMG) and county guidelines and incorporated state and county Emergency Services Studies.
Exploration Geophysicist/Geologist, Unocal Oil Co. Western Region Headquarters, Ventura and Bakersfield, CA, 6/88-8/90. Experience with both the Coastal and Great Valley geological provinces of California. Worked on a regional Sequence Stratigraphy project that emphasized the integration of geological (e.g., well log data), geophysical (e.g., seismic sections, velocity surveys, etc.) and paleontological (e.g., forams, diatoms, and nannofossils) data. Continuing Education courses taken at night included semester courses in Water Management and Water Treatment.
Geophysicist - USGS (United States Geological Survey) summer internship, Pasadena, CA, 6/86-9/86. This internship program is a partnership between UCDavis and the USGS where the UCD Geology faculty choose and recommend 1-3 students each year for paid internship positions with the USGS. As my geologic specialty is geophysics, the USGS placed me with the Souther California USGS Seismology Headquarters in Pasadena. The USGS Pasadena office is a partnership with the CalTech Seismology Department and I spent the mornings in the CalTech seismology lab and the afternoons in the USGS office across the street from CalTech. Over this summer I obtained experience with picking P and S arrivals and worked on a teleseism project which mainly dealt with revising a FORTRAN waveform graphics program.
Chemist's
assistant, Agricultural Services Laboratory, Salinas,
CA, 6/83-9/83.
Conducted quality tests on soils and drinking water.
