Chapter Activities and Events
The LPC chapter of Psi Beta and our sister organization, the Psychology Club, meet each Thursday. Although attendance at our weekly meetingsis encourgaged, it is not required to maintain membership.
Psi Beta and Psychology Club work closely to organize the following activities:

Distinguished Speakers in Psychology Program
Speakers have included:
Kim Peek, "The Real Rain Man," and his father Fran.
The Late Kim Peek, inspiration for the Academy Awarding winning movie "Rain Man" was a frequent speaker at psychology club/ Psi Beta events. In 2010, the Psychology Department presented the"Kim Peek
Making A Difference Awards" to two students. The awards were presented by Mr. Fran Peek.
Dr. WilliamDement, "The Father of Modern Sleep Research". Best selling author of "The Promise of Sleep."
Dr. Dement is a frequent speaker at psychology club / Psi Beta events. In 2010, the Psychology Department
presented the "Dr. William Dement Sleep Awareness Award.
Mel Stuart, award winning producer and director of over 180 movies and documentaries, including the original WillyWonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Making of the President, Four Days in November,
and Wattstax. Mr. Stuart presented the World Premiere of the new documentary on sleep"The Mystery of Sleep" - at LPC Sleep Conference 2010.
Dr. Temple Grandin, "The World's Best-Know and Most Sucessful Person with Autism," best-selling author of "Thinking in Pictures: My Life with Autism," and "Animals in Translation." Dr. Grandin spoke to an audience of over 700 at the 2008 and 2011 LPC Brain Awareness events sponsored by psychology club/ Psi Beta.
Jeff Bell, KCBS news anchor, national spokesperson for Mental Health America, and author of "Rewind, Replay, and Repeat: A Memoir of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder" and "When in Doubt, Make Belief: An OCD-Inspired Approach to Living with Uncertainty." Mr. Bell is a frequent speaker at psychology club/ Psi Beta events.
Dr. John Ratey, Harvard Professor and best-selling author of "A User's Guide to the Brain," "Driven to Distraction," "Shadow Syndromes," and "SPARK: the New Science of Exercise and the Brain." Dr. Ratey
spoke to over an audience of over 400 at the 2009 LPC Brain Awareness event sponsored by psychology club/ Psi Beta.
