Welcome to Lisa Taylor Weaver's Homepage!

During Spring 2013 semester I am teaching: two on-line sections of BUSN40 (Introduction to Business), two sections of BUSN18 (Business  Law), and one section of MKTG50 Introduction to Marketing (online). 

ADDING INTO MY CLASS SECTIONS...

While there are NO waitlists for any of the courses I am teaching, I will add students into all course sections at the beginning of the semester. Seats will open as individuals change their plans and around the date fees are due. Individuals wanting to add are encouraged to check ClassWeb frequently to capture an open seat. Specifically, check late in the day on the deadline dates for paying fees and again early the next day.

By the Wednesday prior to the semester beginning IF a student has not captured a spot in the section s/he is nterested in taking do the following:

1. Send me an e-mail with the following information in the subject line: The course to add into (i.e. BUSN40VO1), your name (i.e. Larry Ellison), and the words "WANT TO ADD". As an example, the subject line should look like:

BUSN40VO1 Fiona Shrek WANT TO ADD

2. When I receive add codes (probably on Thursday or Friday before the semester starts) I will send a confirmation e-mail and an add code.

3. Individuals adding into Face-to-face classes should do the above AND MUST also attend the first class session!

4. Sending an e-mail prior to the Wednesday before classes start doesn't help as there is not a waitlist and I do not keep a list of "interested individuals".

TEXTBOOKS:

For face-to-face sections, students need the textbook with them in class on the second class meeting. Online students need the textbook by Wednesday of the first week. Students who have not received an add code for one of my classes may purchase a text with the confidence that IF the above process is followed, the individual will be added to the section. Detailed textbook information is available from the bookstore.

In addition to the LPC bookstore students may want to consider purchasing books from resellers. This weblink: http://www.textbookrentals.com/ is a comparison website for textbook rentals and other resellers. IF students purchase from a reseller purchase early or pay for expedited shipping. Due daqtes are not extended because students do not have textbooks.

There are also rentals programs available on campus through the ASLPC and the Veteran's Office. Additionally there are several textbook copies available in the LPC library for in library use only.

For the online BUSN40 sections an access code is required. The access codes may be purchased directly from the publisher.

Tuesday & Thursday: 9:00– 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

2nd and 4th Monday: 1:00 - 2:15 p.m. and 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.

1st and 3rd Wednesday: 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Teaching Experience

I became a full-time Professor at Las Positas College in January 2004. I have presented over 2000 public seminars nationwide and over 6000 seminars within a variety of businesses also nationwide all on management and human resources topics. College courses I teach include Advertising, Business Communications, Business Ethics, Business Law, Business Math, Human Relations, Human Resource Management, Introduction to Business, Introduction to Marketing, Management, Retail Store Management, Retailing, Small Business Management, Supervision, and Statistics.

My research and teaching interests are in organization communication and behavior, social motivation and models of social interaction. I have written and published Feedback Focus and Follow-through: A New Managers Guide; Interviewing: Choosing to Make a Difference and a variety of other handbooks and guides for small businesses.


Professional Experience

My business experience includes work with companies of varying size in a multitude of . Immediately prior to joining Las Positas, I was Chief Executive Officer of a large national consulting firm. I am a recognized subject matter expert on management in the automotive industry, and on California Wage and Hour regulations. I am asked frequently to speak to business groups and associations on management issues.

Current Activities

I am on the state-wide advisory board for the Western Association of Food Chains. I am also active in the Society of Human Resources, several chapters of the Employers' Advisory Council, and the American Association of University Women.

A study of the legal environment of business. Covering laws and regulations affecting business decisions including legal concepts and cases in areas of ethics, employment, contracts, consumer transactions, competition, agency, business torts and crimes, and business organizations. Business 40 – Introduction to Business -- Online

This class is a survey course touching on all areas of business. Special focus is provided on contemporary issues such as quality, diversity, ethics, social concerns and the global marketplace. The course examines the primary business functions. We discuss the concepts of the economic systems, types of business ownership, business ethics, the legal structure, accounting basics, an overview of the banking system and financial strategies, the management function and fundamentals of production, marketing and human resources. Marketing 50 – Introduction to Marketing – Online only

This introductory course in Marketing gives students a good foundation and overview of marketing basics. The course focuses on customer relationship marketing, the marketing environments and the impact on the marketing mix. During the semester we discuss marketing research, target markets and the behavioral and demographic dimensions of markets; we analyze various marketing strategies and gain an understanding of the dynamics involved in pricing, promotion, and distribution.
