Accepting requests for hiring students to work on campus in  federal workstudy positions for the 2012-2013
Complete hiring packet must be submitted. Student assistant hiring packets can be downloaded from: http://www.clpccd.org/HR/documents/StudentAssistantPacket2011_000.pdf . All newly hired students must provide documentation of a TB test prior to beginning work; rehired students will need a TB test only if their original test on file is more than 4 years old. Current Payrates are attached; please review descriptions for levels A, B, C and D to determine the correct pay category. All new student hires begin at Step 1 and can be moved to Step 2 after 200 hours upon your filing a request.
WHO CAN BE HIRED AS A FEDERAL WORKSTUDY STUDENT
Only students who have applied for financial aid for 2012-2013 and exhibit some financial need (as determined by the financial aid office) may fill these positions.
Student Services is seeking a few more volunteers who would like to help at this year’s graduation ceremony which is scheduled for the evening of Friday, May 25th.
As we have done in the past, Classified Staff who are interested in volunteering are to request and then work out straight time schedule change with their immediate supervisor and/or administrator (applies to volunteering on Friday evening).
Volunteers needed:
Thursday, May 24th: On-call availability for last minute event chores - various times between 9 am to 3 pm
Friday, May 25th: any time block from 3 pm to 9 pm
- checking grads in - helping to dress grads - helping faculty staff get ready - greeting the guests, handing out commencement programs - assisting guests to seats - assisting elderly or disabled guests - clean up

Job Shadowing Event Wednesday, April 18, 2012 from 7-1:30 p.m. 
Students who are interested in participating should complete the form on the Career Center's website. It is the students responsibility to receive permission from the instructors or their supervisor to miss class or work to attend this event. FREE MICROSOFT SOFTWARE and inexpensive non Microsoft software
- The MSDN Academic Alliance offers software to LPC students who are enrolled in computing classes. The instructor will give the relevant instructions. The list of software packages is here. The download is a large ISO file that you will burn to a blank DVD. For instructions on burning DVD or CDs, go to your instructor's folder on Marvin and get How to Burn ISO files Word document.

Book prices getting you down? Tax Credit for Books. New government program will now reimburse students for up to 100% of the cost of required textbooks and other course materials. For example, if you had out-of-pocket course material expenses or tuition and fees during 2009 or 2010 and no other financial grant aid covers those expenses, you would be able to claim the expenses as a credit. For each student the credit is limited to $2,500.

The LPC Honors Transfer Program is designed to prepare highly motivate students for transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Requirements for admission to the HTP: 12 units completed at LPC with a 3.5 or better GPA. Application forms are available at our website:http://www.laspositascollege.edu/honors. Scholarship opportunities from UNCF.

Looking for a career in computer security?  Launch it with a Cyber Corps scholarship.The U.S. Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey offers a program that enables civilians to obtain a full scholarship for a Master's Degree, receive a salary while in school, and begin a civilian career with an unlimited future. The "Scholarship for Service" program does not entail enrollment in the Military. Students receive their Master's Degree and move on to civilian jobs in such organizations as the CIA, FBI, NSA, and others. Deadlines are renewed as needed.

SCHOLARSHIPS
You may apply for as many scholarships as you qualify for;
One copy of your application must be submitted for each scholarship you wish to apply for. International Students (those with ‘F1’ VISAs) do not qualify for scholarships which require FINANCIAL NEED (F1 assumes that foreign students are financially independent). However, they may apply for non-government scholarships. Concurrently enrolled high school students do not qualify for the LPC Scholarship Program.
LPC THEATER SCHEDULE All performances are in the Las Positas College Theater and are $10 general admission and $7 for students and seniors unless otherwise noted. http://www.laspositascollege.edu/performingarts/index.php Your admission fees help your theater classmates.
