The East Bay Stand Down - a four-day event that bring together the homeless and at-risk military Veterans. http://www.eastbaystanddown.org/
September 11 to September 14th at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. This program is designed to help those veterans in need who are homeless or have other issues. This is a volunteer driven program that provides needed medical and dental care, help with legal problems and a host of other programs. You don't have to be a veteran to volunteer. Registration for volunteers ends Monday, September 1st. NO walk-on volunteers will be allowed to work this time.
Stand Down is a military term that means a unit or base "stands down" from their regular duties to take care of needed training, maintenance or other issues.
9/11 Observance - Thursday, September 11 at 11am, an observance by the LPC Student First Program and Student Veterans Organization will take place in the quad near the fountain. Presentation of colors will be done at the time by the Livermore Police Color Guard and there will be a short presentation and talk after the posting of the colors
PDC is a logistics company in Livermore in need of a new hire. Needs an in-house person to handle basic trouble-shooting for application and network issues. Understand at least conceptually a network,
setup printers and workstations, basic understanding of MS Office and report writing. Will train on all of the above, looking for the right individual who has the aptitude in this area and be able to listen and learn.

SCHOLARSHIPS - APPLY NOW - All students need to have completed at least 12 units at LPC to qualify. Many scholarships do NOT require a very high g.p.a.; some require as little as a 2.0 GPA. Many do NOT require financial need, and even if they do, financial need does not require being destitute or receiving financial aid!

Requirements for the LPC Honors Transfer Program:
For continuing students: At least 12 units completed at LPC with a 3.5 or higher GPA, and eligibility for English 1A.
For new students entering from high school: A 3.75 cumulative GPA and a copy of your high-school transcript.
You may apply at any time during the semester, but it’s best to apply early in the term so you can get started on your honors projects.

Any transferable course may become an honors course if you complete a substantial project in addition to the regular coursework. You will work one-on-one with a faculty member to design the project; both full and part-time faculty are eligible to mentor honors students
By participating in a Transfer Admission Guarantee [TAG] or Transfer Admissions Agreement [TAA] program, you will receive early review of your academic records, early admission notification and specific guidance about major preparation and general education coursework.UCSD will not offer any TAG agreements after fall 2014. So fall of 2013 is the last time we can write a TAG to this campus. They will no longer be a TAG school but students will still be able to apply through the regular process, Nov.1 - Nov 30th. The GPA needed to write a TAG for UCSD is 3.5. If a student has the 3.5 GPA, the best possible way to get in is to write a TAG in fall 2013.

All newly hired students must provide documentation of a TB test prior to beginning work; rehired students will need a TB test only if their original test on file is more than 4 years old. Current Payrates are attached; please review descriptions for levels A, B, C and D to determine the correct pay category. All new student hires begin at Step 1 and can be moved to Step 2 after 200 hours upon your filing a request.

Book prices getting you down?
Tax Credit for Books. New government program will now reimburse students for up to 100% of the cost of required textbooks and other course materials. For example, if you had out-of-pocket course material expenses or tuition and fees during 2009 or 2010 and no other financial grant aid covers those expenses, you would be able to claim the expenses as a credit. For each student the credit is limited to $2,500.
The LPC Honors Transfer Program is designed to prepare highly motivate students for transfer to four-year colleges and universities. You may apply for as many scholarships as you qualify for; One copy of your application must be submitted for each scholarship you wish to apply for. International Students (those with ‘F1’ VISAs) do not qualify for scholarships which require FINANCIAL NEED (F1 assumes that foreign students are financially independent). However, they may apply for non-government scholarships. Concurrently enrolled high school students do not qualify for the LPC Scholarship Program.
