Challenge Ladder
RULES:
The ladder is composed of a vertical level of all the fencers.
Challenges can be fenced with electrical equipment, or with standard equipment if agreed by both fencers.
A fencer may challenge anyone in the three positions above him/her. If the first 3 fencers are absent, the challenger may only challenge the next fencer on the ladder. If the first 4 fencers are absent, the challenger may only challenge the next fencer, etc.
If a challenge is successful, the challenger will move up to the position held by the defeated fencer, and that fencer and everyone below on the ladder will be bumped down one position.
Challenge bouts for the top three positions on the ladder will be for a total of 15 touches and will be broken into three rounds of three minutes duration each. There will be a one-minute break between rounds.
Challenge bouts for positions 4, 5, or 6 will be for a total of 10 touches and will be broken into two rounds of three minutes duration each. There will be a one-minute break between rounds.
Challenge bouts for all other positions will be for five touches, four minutes duration: three minutes/warning/one minute. In the case of a tie, there will be an additional one-minute of fencing. The first fencer to score wins. If the one-minute tiebreaker does not produce a winner, the bout will be declared a tie and both fencers will stay where they are on the ladder.
A challenge need not be accepted on the day it is made. It should be accepted as soon as it is possible for both fencers to meet under the proper circumstances.
Any club member may join the ladder by simply placing their name at the bottom position.
Any fencer absent from all fencing classes for two weeks may be bumped from their position on the ladder and onto the horizontal ladder at the discretion of Sophie and the club officers.
A fencer who does not show up for a challenge forfeits the bout.
